THe Registry

The Registry is a foundation of Carbono Biodiverso enforcing accountability, integrity, and full transparency.

Why a registry?
A carbon registry ensures that every tonne of carbon captured is real, traceable, and accountable
The Carbono Biodiverso Registry is an innovative digital platform that ensures full traceability of the reported emissions to the exact properties under regeneration by local landholders, while facilitating reporting, verification, operational transparency, and visibility.Accountability is maintained across three sectors: the private sector, the civil society via Sierra Gorda Ecological Group, and government via the Secretariat of Sustainable Development of the State of Querétaro.
INCLUSIVITY
Why the Carbono Biodiverso Registry has to work differently
Carbono Biodiverso was created with the core mission of democratizing socio-environmental and economic values. While other carbon programs are designed exclusively for large-scale landowners, the Carbono Biodiverso project and Local Protocol make it possible for small- to medium-sized landowners to register their properties as well, creating a transformative pathway for rural communities to attain a stable income and participate in the formal economy.

“The Carbono Biodiverso Registry is a scalable blueprint that sets a benchmark for other regions, demonstrating how technology, local partnerships, and transparency drive replicable environmental and community success.”

How it Works
Robust data management and impact visualization
The Carbono Biodiverso Registry is a scalable digital platform tailored to the realities of landscape-level conservation. It integrates multiple properties, each with its own carbon sequestration factors linked to vegetation type, into a single transparent system. Every carbon transaction is fully traceable through a log and a satellite-linked map, ensuring credibility, accountability, and trust. The platform combines automation, transparency, and long-term monitoring.
1. Land is registered.
When a landowner expresses interest, Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda assesses the land on-site to determine eligibility. If it meets the protocol’s criteria, it is registered in the project.
2. Land carbon inventory.
Carbono Biodiverso uses carbon removal factors. Field teams establish monitoring sites to measure biomass and assess key ecological factors like tree species and vegetation type.
3. Land is coded.
The land’s annual carbon removal is calculated based on forest type and formally recorded. Each property receives a unique code and an official annual carbon removal figure.
4. Inventory blocks created.
Periodically, carbon inventories are conducted for all registered properties, generating verified blocks from the collected data. This verified carbon amount can now be used in a transaction to fulfill a company’s carbon compensation requirements.
5. Unique block grouping.
Unlike other registries, Carbono Biodiverso allows carbon inventories from multiple, diverse properties to be flexibly combined. This enables the creation of carbon transactions of any size, tailored to meet the specific offsetting needs of companies while ensuring inclusiveness for small and medium landholders.
6. Company transactions made.
Companies seeking to offset their emissions can now purchase these verified carbon removal units.
