HONESTY
Credible offsets with real impact
Carbono Biodiverso sets a new standard offering credible, locally grounded option for businesses and individuals who are genuinely committed to supporting nature-based and community-centered carbon sequestration.

Developed as a non-profit alternative to standards like Verra, Gold Standard, and Climate Action Reserve, which often impose costly and inaccessible requirements on local landowners, this protocol ensures that 80% of all revenue received from businesses goes directly to landowners, with management fees kept to a minimum.

By strengthening rural livelihoods through sustainable income streams that reduce dependence on extractive practices, it promotes long-term forest conservation, safeguards biodiversity, and builds local capacity through training in best practices for ecosystem management.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Transparency through technology
Traditional carbon-offset marketplaces often suffer from poor transparency, inconsistent quality, and flawed calculations. For Carbono Biodiverso, establishing full transparency and accountability was not optional, it was a fundamental mandate.

The protocol was built to guarantee that every carbon unit reflects accurately sequestered carbon, giving investors clear, verifiable evidence of their impact. Through complete traceability, the registry meticulously calculates each offset and links it to specific land parcels, with all data rigorously audited by the Government of Querétaro and an independent third party to ensure integrity and anonymity. Corporate buyers gain confidence from this transparent system, backed by annual impact reports and the assurance that their investment delivers real benefits to both ecosystems and local landowners.

This local protocol respects landowners’ circumstances, directing carbon offset payments to beneficiaries rather than project developers and reinvesting remaining funds into community initiatives.

REGULATION
Sello Querétaro
The strength of Carbono Biodiverso stems from a climate action plan and a robust regulatory model under Querétaro’s Secretariat of Sustainable Development (SEDESU), which has remained consistent across multiple state administrations and actively welcomes collaboration with local civil-society organizations, in this case the Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda (GESG). The Sello Querétaro is a state-driven regulation that enables companies to offset their emissions through an innovative local carbon-tax system, directing funds to verified carbon projects within the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve. Backed by SEDESU, it provides corporate buyers with transparent verification, government-guaranteed integrity, and direct contributions to regional conservation and community well-being offering a credible, locally grounded alternative that helps companies meet their environmental commitments while avoiding greenwashing.

“The State Seal of Low Carbon Emissions represents trust, transparency and recognition for those who take responsibility for measuring, reducing or offsetting their carbon footprint, strengthening the link between public policy and community conservation projects.”

Secretary of Sustainable Development State of Querétaro
Case study
Uber protects Sierra Gorda’s biodiversity
In November 2024 Uber announced its commitment to the regeneration of the country's natural heritage by joining the "Carbono Biodiverso" project, developed by the Sierra Gorda Ecological Group (GESG).

“We all have to do our part, and at Uber it is clear that we have to act now to guarantee a green future of which we can be proud,” - Juan Pablo Eiroa, General Manager of Uber Mexico.

Uber will support this initiative through a quarterly investment aimed at enhancing the carbon sequestration capacity and ecosystem value of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve. This investment is expected to promote the replication of this model in other regions and contribute to the development of local protocols that enable landowners to receive payments for carbon sequestration, fostering a positive cycle of environmental conservation and economic growth for local communities.
