Created to help companies, NGOs and government institutions understand and adopt the Carbono Biodiverso protocol, this book explores how locally led carbon finance can support forest conservation, natural regeneration and sustainable community development in Mexico’s Sierra Gorda.

Drawing on decades of conservation experience, the book explains how the Carbono Biodiverso protocol connects climate action with lasting benefits for local communities through the Four Returns framework: natural, social, financial and inspirational returns. It demonstrates how protecting ecosystems and improving rural livelihoods can work together to support long-term regional sustainability.
We are proud that the book has reached the President of Mexico, who has expressed interest in expanding this approach to other states across the country. This milestone highlights the potential of the Carbono Biodiverso model to inform wider efforts to connect carbon finance, biodiversity protection and community-led conservation throughout Mexico.
